The Story

Srimathi, which formed the basis for the name SrimaTea in Sinhalese, a language spoken only in the tropical island of Sri Lanka, means internal and external serenity, beauty, and abundance all coined into one word. It was also the name of our beloved grandma Srimathi Thusita Peiris, who personified the meaning of this word in every sense. She was beautiful, both inside and out, serene, gracious, kind, compassionate, and completely selfless. She put others before herself and stood for what she believed. Her sudden demise has inspired us to perpetuate her beliefs. She believed that everyone had the power to make a difference; and so we would like to make a difference in the world in her honor.

Our company and brand SrimaTea was thus founded under the principles and values that our grandma lived by. We created this company with the mission of empowering consumers to make a difference. By purchasing our tea, our customers will support youth education in Sri Lanka as well as in the U.S. We hope you will join us in this journey; remember each of us has the power to make a difference in the world. Your cup of tea gives joy to you as well as struggling youth. Together, we can change the world one cup at a time!

This company was conceptualized, created, and is run by siblings. It has given us the confidence and courage as students to dream of possibilities and make them a reality. As globally focused teenagers, this endeavor has been an exercise that has taught us that anything is possible when we work together across borders, cultures and generations. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with S. St Clair Teas (Private) Limited, that share our values on focusing on people, planet, and profits.
